The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Series by Steven Spielberg
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is a tense story of espionage and Cold War tension that ends with an intense and thrilling final scene. The first episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier featured Tom Hanks as one of two legendary CIA agents, Donnie Gilliard as Frank Shamrock and Robert Duvall as Howard Hughes. The movie combined the best elements of comic book movies into an action-filled drama that was considered to be one of the most successful of the year. The movie spawned a number of imitators, most notably The Winter Soldier and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. However, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier stand out as the rare example of an espionage/adventure franchise that succeeded both during its release and long after.
The movie starts off with Howard Hughes (Tom Hanks), working as a corporate lawyer in New York City. An armed robber tries to rob him at gunpoint, but is knocked unconscious thanks to an explosion that sends him flying through the window of a nearby building. An ambulance takes him to a hospital where a top level official asks him to recover quickly so he can attend a world conference. There, Hughes is informed that his life is in danger due to a plot he has developed involving a new weapons system that could wipe out most of America’s weapons infrastructure. While recovering, Hughes encounters an escaped former Nazi terrorist called Hans Gruber and a mysterious Russian named Vasili Oschepko.

Once at the facility, Oschepkov makes a startling discovery that the facility is on the verge of a biological attack. and if it happens, it will kill everyone in the area. Meanwhile, Vasili tries to recruit Hughes to work with him for a biometric skin research project. The two struggle to work together despite being fired from their previous jobs, and then they learn that one of the FBI’s most wanted terrorists, Emmit Soldo (James Brolin), has been accidentally let free because of a group of Russian terrorists called The Falcon Company. The Falcon Company is out to get the US government’s bio-weapons technology and to make a profit from the research conducted unsold. Meanwhile, Hughes goes underground, attempting to help his friend out while still working at his job.
The Falcon Company soon finds itself at the center of a power struggle between the Russian President and his advisor, Andropov. The two are linked in an uneasy alliance, and the president wants to send Andropov into the US to put a stop to the projects he is developing. Meanwhile, Hughes is determined to expose Andropov for his atrocious crimes, and he contacts the Russian President’s personal butler, Kiril Kutshev, to arrange a secret meeting with Andropov where he hopes to obtain proof of Andropov’s ties to The Falcon Company…but he accidentally kills Kiril instead. The next morning, Andropov attends the funeral of Kiril Kutshev, blaming Hughes for his untimely death. Shortly thereafter, in a drive-by shooting at a trade fair, Hughes is hit and seriously injured.
