The Rock Movies To See

The Rock is one of those Hollywood stars who seem to be able to appear in at least three films with varying levels of success. He is best known by his stage name The Rock; he is a member of the Three Kings (along with Pro wrestling legend Ric Flair and actor Don Cheadle). The Rock has appeared in enough movies to have been nominated for Academy Awards, but has yet to win any major Film Awards for his work. Here is a look at some of The Rock’s best movies.

The Rock – Best Comedy Movies Actor

The Rock movies rank right up there with the greatest comedy franchises of all time. In fact, The Godfather films were The Rock’s first two films where he showed his range as a comic actor. The late George Segal wrote and directed The Rock. The film was a box office smash, giving The Rock in his first major break into the movies. The movie followed The Game, a wealthy playboy who was trying to live up to his father’s expectations; he constantly cheated on his mother, became a junkie, ran away to California, and married stripper extraordinaire Pamela Anderson. The Rock’s character was a high school drop out who changed his name to The Rock so that people would not know who he was.

The movie was not a huge hit, but it did introduce The Rock to the world, giving him a name and a persona that would last for years. The movie spawned a sequel with The Firm, which starred Dolph Ziggler. The third installment of The Rock franchise was titled The Great Bhopal Show and starred Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The movie did not do as well as its predecessors, but it still managed to rake in an impressive amount of money, bringing The Rock into the world of mainstream cinema.

The year after The Firm, The Great Bhopal Show was releasing, chronicling The Rock’s final days at Bhopal, where he settled down with his daughter. The movie chronicles his rise through the film, with his daughter wanting to move out, to get a better job, but he wants to stick around. The movie ended with The Rock driving his motorcycle into a truck bombarding the city, forcing his family to relocate, while Bhopal suffers without a hero. The movie did achieve one big success, winning two Academy Awards and spawning three sequels.

The Devil’s Advocate Released

The year following The Great Bhopal Show, The Devil’s Advocate was released, featuring The Rock as a defense attorney representing a prostitute accused of killing her pimp boyfriend. The movie chronicles The Rock’s legal battle to prove that the woman is innocent, fighting not only to free his client but also to protect the city from a harmful law. The movie failed to make much of a mark, but was a good comedy for anyone willing to take a chance on an unknown actor. The year following The Devil’s Advocate, The Cable Guy was released, giving viewers an extended look at The Rock as a late night talk show host. The movie focused on The Rock’s off-kilter impressions, as well as his on-air personality, and received warm praise from critics, though not a great number of viewers actually saw The Cable Guy.

The Rock’s career can be a complicated one to chronicle, but with such a vast array of great movies to pick from, it should be no trouble to compile a top ten list. The Rock has been portrayed in so many different roles throughout his long career that it is impossible to rank them within any single genre. The list can start with The Rock’s starring role in The Cable Guy, which ranks sixth overall on this countdown. The other movies can all be seen here, if you have the time.
